Review – The Stage

If you like You Me Bum Bum Train you’ll love Above and Beyond. The one-on-one show takes you on a secretive solo journey around parts of the uber-swanky five-star Corinthia Hotel even the chambermaids have never seen.

Look Left Look Right, who thrilled audiences with their acclaimed 2011 interactive play You Once Said Yes, are this year’s artists in residence at the Corinthia. And their new, meticulously timed show again leads visitors through a dozen or so mini-performances which each very subtly aim to persuade you to reflect on the little decisions you make every single day.

This time, the theme is making your own dreams come true. And the wonderful hotel (home to The X Factor finalists while the show was being filmed last year) provides a pretty attractive lifestyle to strive for.

A sneaky visit around the penthouse suite and its wonderful view alone justifies the ticket price (after all, it’s about the same price as a trip up The Shard). But it is Morgan Lloyd Malcolm and Katie Lyons’ writing, the demanding yet seemingly effortless acting and director Mimi Poskitt’s awe-inspiring attention to detail which will make you wish you could stroll around the hotel all over again as soon as you’ve reached the end.
